2026 LCMS Constitution Amendment
Dear Family of Faith,
Our national church body, the Lutheran Church Missouri Synod, is asking for us to vote on a Constitutional Amendment to our Synod Constitution. At the 2026 Synod Convention in July, the convention passed Resolution 9-14A. This resolution was an amendment to revise Article XII.15 of our Synod Constitution.
The Amendment would create provisions to call special district conventions by groups/individuals other than the District President. At a congregational level, we have a similar provision which allows a special Voter’s Assembly to be called by individuals or groups other than the Congregational President or Council, provided that certain conditions are met.
Why would we need to do something about this amendment? Good question! When the LCMS Convention passes a resolution which would change the LCMS Constitution, all member congregations must vote to ratify that amendment within a six-month window after the Synod Convention. If the amendment is ratified by 2/3rd of the Synod’s congregations, it passes. If not, it fails.
At our next Voter’s Assembly on October 25th, we will consider our congregation’s vote on this matter.
To read the letter from the LCMS Secretary and the text of the amendment, see the full document on our Synod’s website here: https://files.lcms.org/file/
Thank you for reading this!
The Lord’s peace be with you always,
Pastor Laws
