Faith Lutheran Church to Hold Continuing Education Class for Pastors
ROGUE RIVER, Ore- As with any profession, pastors are looking to expand their knowledge base and learn to become better in their field. For the third year in a row, Faith Lutheran Church in Rogue River is helping make such continuing education for pastors available. The continuing education class is a program through Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, IN (CTSFW) in which the seminary teams up with local congregations throughout the United States to provide classroom space and facilitate three or five day classes. In turn, CTSFW sends a member of the teaching faculty to the local congregation to teach pastors and interested lay people in topics of the professor’s expertise.
“It’s a neat opportunity for our church,” Rev. Evan Goeglein said, pastor of Faith Lutheran Church. “We usually ask the professor to come a day early to preach in church and to teach the Sunday morning Bible Class, so it’s great for the members of our church and for those pastors who travel to Rogue River.” In previous years pastors traveled to Rogue River from throughout the State of Oregon, Northern California and as far away as Nevada. “The time spent in learning and growing in confessional theology is beneficial, edifying, and enriching personally and the benefits are then used in the pastoral ministry,” said Rev. Donald Jordan, pastor of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Chico, CA, “It is like being in seminary once again and these classes are deeply appreciated.”
This year Dr. Cameron MacKenzie will be teaching the class Luther’s Theology in Today’s World July 25-27. Dr. MacKenzie is the Forrest E. and Frances H. Ellis Professor of German Reformation Studies Chariman of Historical Theology at CTSFW. He has a B.A. in Mathemaitcs and History from the University of Detroit, an M.A. in History from the University of Chicago, an M.A. in Classics from Wayne State University, an S.T.M. in New Testament from CTSFW and a Ph.D. in History from the University of Notre Dame. Dr. MacKenzie will be teaching Sunday Morning Bible Class and preaching at Faith Lutheran Church on Sunday July 24th at Faith Lutheran Church which sits just outside of Rogue River at 8582 Rogue River Hwy.
